Put power back into the hands of audio content creators

Role overview

Who are we?

Audius is a digital streaming service that connects fans directly with artists and exclusive new music.

It does this by being fully decentralized: Audius is owned and run by a vibrant, open-source community of artists, fans, and developers all around the world. Audius gives artists the power to share never-before-heard music and monetize streams directly. Developers can build their own apps on top of Audius, giving them access to one of the most unique audio catalogs in existence.

Backed by an all-star team of investors, Audius was founded in 2018 and serves over 4,000,000 users every month, making it the largest non-financial crypto application ever built.

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for passionate team-players to help us onboard and organize the largest community-run blockchain infrastructure on the planet. You are a collaborative engineer who enjoys working with a small team to solve big problems that need innovative solutions. You’re eager to jump into multiple parts of our tech stack and have strong CS fundamentals to do so. We solve a lot of problems that can't be easily Googled or searched on StackOverflow.

Our Company:

Audius is a 18-person team of entrepreneurs, engineers, audiophiles, and blockchain experts. Our benefits include unlimited PTO, high quality paid medical insurance, FSA, 401k, yearly learning stipend, equipment stipend and a home office setup credit (whatever you need to be productive!). We also have a monthly stipend for music-related activities (concerts, lessons, etc.).

Our company is fully remote and our team is currently distributed across the United States.

About this position:

The Audius Protocol is open source and built entirely on open source software, which means community contributions are open and developers can freely build on top of Audius. The services (nodes) that power the protocol are run by individuals and groups within the Audius community rather than solely our company. We are looking for someone to help build and manage technical relationships with our developer and service operator community. This ranges from onboarding node operators, working through technical infrastructure challenges with our team and third-parties, debugging production issues, managing new releases and service rollouts, and creating infrastructure, processes, and tools to improve major pain points and make building on, with, and for Audius easy. This is a software engineering role, so strong software engineering, infrastructure and communications skills are required.

What you'll do at Audius

  • Be a public face of and to the Audius node operator community
  • Write tooling, monitoring, and release (CI / CD) software to streamline and optimize processes that keep the protocol moving forward
  • Lead and manage significant portions of internal Audius infrastructure. We want the person collaborating with our node operators to have been in their position and understand any potential pain points before they arise.
  • Act as a release captain, schedule versions releases, and communicate new infrastructure features and related changes to our community
  • Help node operators run Audius services on their infrastructure and ensure that it runs smoothly and securely
  • Collaborate with the rest of the engineering team to fix community-facing issues

Skills and Experience

  • 2+ years of experience building, shipping, and managing production infrastructure
  • Strong computer science fundamentals
  • Extensive experience with a modern programming language (JavaScript, Python preferred), shell scripting and strong Linux fundamentals
  • Experience building and managing deployments using Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and other orchestration tools
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills, comfort working within a small team, and comfort interfacing with external groups
  • Track record of working through technical obstacles and solving complex infrastructure challenges with minimal guidance
  • You've broken production before and you know how how it happened, why it happened, and how to mitigate it from happening again

Bonus Points:

  • Previous experience in a similar type of role like partner engineer, sales engineer, developer advocate or developer evangelist
  • Familiarity with blockchain technologies and the blockchain space
  • Previous system administration and database management experience
  • Passionate about music!

  • 10-49

Audius is a decentralized, community-owned, and artist-controlled music-sharing protocol. Audius provides a blockchain-based alternative to SoundCloud to help artists monetize their work and distribute it directly to fans. Audius launched it's public beta at the end of September and within the first week over 30,000 users listened to 13,000 tracks from artists that signed up to use Audius including Deadmau5, 3LAU, Brownies and Lemonade, Zeds Dead, with exclusive content from Rezz, Lido and others.
