Programmer role within the Market Risk Systems team πŸ“ˆπŸ’Έ

Role overview

GSA Capital is an award winning global quantitative investment manager. We run a number of absolute return, alternative strategies focused on systematic trading across liquid equities, futures and foreign exchange markets globally. 🌍

For over a decade we have worked together creating and applying innovative technologies to solve problems in the investment management industry. Over 60% of our staff work in research or on developing technology necessary to enable and monetise our research. πŸ’» We are an eclectic mix of mathematicians, scientists, programmers, economists and a great deal more. We live by the scientific method in building quantitative models that analyse and predict real world behaviour.πŸ“Š We implement algorithms based on these models to systematically invest in markets.

At GSA we reward people based on merit and excellence, not necessarily on experience.πŸ₯‡ We avoid the bureaucracy of larger organisations, and keep our management structures flat. Decisions are made efficiently; changes are implemented quickly.

People who work here enjoy a culture of trust, innovation and scientific rigour. We have some really creative, super-smart people here; all of whom would be embarrassed to be described that way. It’s a friendly, open place where people are motivated because they enjoy what they’re doing.

The Team

  • The role is within the Risk team, which is responsible for risk analytics and reporting of market, counterparty and operational risks for key internal and external consumers
  • We are a small, focused team working closely with key stakeholders, enabling authentic agile development
  • We value collaboration and early user feedback over process and long specifications
  • We support the applications we own so take technical debt and solid design seriously
  • We work on adding support for new product types as well as maintaining existing risk data and analytics
  • We use a mix of technologies, including Scala and ScalaZ, Angular JS and SQL Server

Candidate Attributes

  • Strong experience with server side Java / Scala development
  • Good database / SQL skills, including schema design
  • Experience, and most importantly, strong belief in good software practices like continuous integration, code review, unit testing and refactoring
  • Some exposure/knowledge of finance would be very much beneficial, and otherwise a demonstrable desire to gain such exposure through the role would be essential
  • Confident working independently and interacting directly with both the business and other tech teams
  • You are highly self-motivated; colleagues consider you exceptionally motivated, hardworking, proactive, creative, detail oriented and reliable.
