Overview

Lantern Ventures is a London-based proprietary trading firm specialising in cryptocurrencies. We use technologies developed in-house to identify and execute on trading opportunities arising in cryptocurrency markets worldwide. Lantern Ventures is a strongly mission-driven organisation, donating 50% of firm profits to highly effective charities; applicants with an interest in this mission will be favourably considered.

Our core technical product is a web application used by our in-house trading staff which provides a manual trading interface with views into the current behaviour of markets and various other features to assist them in making trades. It’s backed by a real-time data pipeline that aggregates and processes live data from thousands of different markets. This means that even though we have a relatively small number of users, the technical challenges involved can be significant.

We are looking for an experienced Haskell engineer to work on our services and help us improve and extend our in-house trading platform. You’ll be working on our websocket API integrations, data processing pipeline, algorithmic trade execution and more. The role will involve taking full ownership of the projects you work on, from planning and architecture design through implementation and testing. You will collaborate closely with the CTO to ensure consistency of our design principles. An ideal candidate will prioritise correctness and simplicity; “making it right before making it fast”.

At the start, the role will mainly consist of implementing feature requests and bugfixes as you gain familiarity with our systems. You will naturally transition into having a lot more influence on our software design, architecture and the trading platform overall. If done well, your contributions will lead directly to increases in the productivity of our traders, and therefore have a meaningful impact on the overall success of our business.

Apply for this job if

  • You value software design, architecture and testing.
  • You are adaptable and willing to work beyond Haskell as necessary to implement a feature that spans multiple areas.
  • You enjoy working on the projects that are most valuable to the business as a whole, and seeing your work have a direct impact on company success.
  • You are excited by the idea of working with high-velocity, real-time, heterogeneous data streams and finding ways to turn that data into useful and actionable information.
  • You thrive in fast-paced startup environments, where priorities can shift quickly and feedback loops are extremely tight.
  • You are motivated by having a positive impact on the world through charitable giving.

Skills/Experience

  • 4+ years back-end experience using Haskell professionally or open-source
  • Proficiency with SQL strongly preferred
  • Experience working with heterogeneous time series data, especially financial data, is a plus
  • Experience with Redis is a plus
  • Experience with one cloud provider AWS/GCP/Azure, Infrastructure as code, Docker is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English required
  • Experience working in small teams in a startup-like environment and building and shipping products that are critical to business success is a plus (figuring out what is required, how to build it, how to fix it, iterate on it)

Salary and benefits

  • Discretionary bonus
  • 33 days of annual leave (including bank holidays)
  • NEST pensions scheme
  • 12 weeks of paid parental leave for employees
  • Sick leave
